This econometric study covers the world outlook for pancreatic cancer drugs across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-a-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. Chalotte Rae, familiar to millions of TV viewers as the housemother on the '80s sitcom The Facts of Life, was diagnosed in 2009 with pancreatic cancer, an often-silent killer with few if any symptoms until it is too late. Some 40000 new cases of pancreatic cancer are diagnosed each year, and by the time diagnosis is made, up to 80 percent of patients are no longer candidates for treatment. "I had no symptoms," Rae says. "I had absolutely no symptoms. None whatsoever." But Rae was, in a way, lucky. Because she had a family history of the disease - her mother, uncle and older sister all died from the disease - she underwent early screening, which detected the cancer at an early stage. "We're working hard to develop tests for earlier diagnosis," says Howard Reber, MD, director of the UCLA Pancreatic Cancer Program. The goal is to create something similar to the PSA test now done to detect prostate cancer in its early stages, before it has had a chance to spread. "In patients where we know that there's an increased likelihood of the development of the disease, we can screen them, we can get CT scans, we can get endoscopic ultrasounds," Dr. Reber says. In Rae's case, the cancer was detected and found to be contained, but it was growing fast. Surgery was performed to remove the cancer, and now, following surgery and chemotherapy, Rae is cancer free. Pancreatic cancer is a 'most unfortunate' disease because it compromises one of the essential organs necessary in an effective recovery from cancer. The pancreas is an essential part of the immune system, which normally functions to destroy cancer cells as they are formed in the body.

This cancerous disease does not have a good prognosis, being the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. It is estimated that 28,000 Americans will die this year of this disease. Only 3% of patients who are treated surgically for this disease will survive for five years.

It occurs most often in patients between the ages of 60 and 80 years, although I know of much younger people who have succumbed to the disease. It rarely occurs in people under 40 years old. Cigarette smoking increases the risk three fold. The risk is also increased by exposure to industrial chemicals and genetically as indicated by a family history of breast or colon cancer.

I know a man who is currently being treated for pancreatic cancer by using an encapsulation method, which isolates the cancerous cells. He has survived for 2 years and seems to be doing relatively well. I currently know another man who is surviving very well for over a year on UKRAIN treatment. UKRAIN is an alkaloid derivative that is used in encapsulation treatment of cancer. It was used in a study that resulted in a 76% survival for a year as compared to a 9.5% survival in a control group.

There are currently no specific tests for this type of cancer. However, there are non-specific tests for cancer anywhere in the body. One is the AMAS test, which is a very sensitive and reliable test for cancer. Calling 1-800-9CATEST may have the latest information on this test.

I have known a few patients who made good recoveries of the pancreas by using alternative treatment protocols. I believe that if I had the problem, I would concentrate on alternative measures, as conventional treatment has a very poor record of success in treating pancreatic cancer.

As with all methods of treatment, it is best to be informed so you can make wise decisions about the prospects of your recovery. Having a well-balanced diet high in antioxidants will help to fight off the disease by boosting your body's immune system. This is very important because it strengthens the body's natural ability to heal itself and repair damaged tissue and promotes healing throughout the body.
